Beauty // Beautycounter Review

I’ve never been a fan of Network Marketing Businesses (there, I said it). I get at least two DM’s per week, from people I don’t know, telling me I’d be great at business XYZ. How would they know I’d be great? They don’t. The in-authenticity of random outreach makes me feel like I’m just a warm body with a few dollar signs attached to my “brand” and to be honest, it makes me feel pretty crappy. Please don’t get me wrong, I respect the crap out of a side hustle. In an age where it actually makes more sense to quit your job and stay home, rather than pay outrageous childcare costs (if you can even find great childcare), I so admire a mom boss who is able to stay home and raise her babies while simultaneously financially supporting her family, in whatever capacity it may be. It’s the “I know we haven’t spoken in 12 years, but Ra Ra Ra product XYZ will change your life!!!! Let me help you make $2000 a week!!!” that I’m just not feeling.

If I’m being honest *and if you’ve made it this far, I think you can tell that I am 😉* I’m far more likely to try a product if:

  • The “consultant” doesn’t randomly slide into my DM’s
  • I can shop a site on my own (no middle man)
  • There’s a solid return policy

I have a handful of friends who represent Beautycounter, and what drew me to learn more about their products was that none of them approached me about their products.

Since I like to use my little corner of the internet to share about things that I, myself, wonder about, I tried a few BC products at my own cost. I had pretty low expectations going into it (I mean, how can the products be good without the chemicals all of the other brands use??) but ya’ll…they’re good.

Here’s Where My Review Actually Starts

What’s the difference between Beautycounter and the brands I already use?

Beautycounter uses the safest ingredients possible (excluding over 1,500 ingredients which can be found here on “The Never List“) in both the high performing products themselves, as well as their packaging. One of the amazing things about living in Europe is the strict regulations the EU places on personal care products, which includes bans and restrictions on over 1,400 chemicals that are not regulated in the United States (read: there are 1,400 chemicals that the EU has deemed harmful, that are in the products we purchase and put on our skin every.single.day).

Since I have two tiny little humans touching my face (with little hands and baby kisses), I decided to see what the buzz was about and make the switch to clean beauty. If you’re interested in clean living, are a new mom, or you’re just interested in makeup, check out my experience with a few of the products I’ve tested.

Spoiler Alert: They’re actually really awesome.

When it came to matching the colors I’ve been accustomed to, I found it to be actually super easy. The first product I tried, was their All-Over Bronzer, which *gasp* I actually liked more than my other go-to bronzers (on the list: Bobbi Brown, Tarte, Benefit, Bare Essentials, and Urban Decay). I still love my fav Bobbi Brown ($44) bronzer *my second favorite by Bare Essentials was discontinued, but I have to say this is a switch I’m going to stick with, since it’s just that good (and its $5 less than BB’s version…so I can get that extra latte).

I generally don’t wear foundation, but occasionally use this BB cream by Dr. Jart + ($39). Since this one is definitely on the thicker side, I was open to trying something a little bit more light weight for days where I needed coverage, but nothing to heavy. With Olivia around my face all day, the fact that it’s the cleanest option was also a huge draw. I was really surprised by the consistency of the Beautycounter ($42) Tint Skin Foundation (definitely lighter than I remember foundation to be). Since the whole point of my experiment is making cleaner switches, I’m definitely happy with this cleaner (and lighter) version for the goal I’m trying to achieve.

Note: I’m also interested in trying out Beautycounter’s Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer for everyday use. Personal results TBD, but the rave reviews from one of my favorite Mama bloggers has my interest peaked. ⬇

“This is the only all over coverage I use on my face. I think it has excellent coverage for what I need it for (I have never been someone to use a ton of coverage all over my face) and it has built in SPF in it. If you want more coverage, you can layer on Tint Skin after your Dew Skin! I only wear the dew skin and feel that it is enough coverage for me!

Bronzer and blush are like a 1-2 punch for me, and whether I’m wearing foundation or not, I need a little pinch of color on my face. The Beautycounter blush ($30) holds up just as well as my MAC ($25) and Bobbi Brown favorites, and even though the price point makes up for that latte I mentioned earlier, with tiny hands and lips on my face all day, this is a switch I’m comfortable paying a little more for.

I’m really bad about washing my face before bed. I know it’s basically a cardinal sin of skin, but at the end of a long day with the girls, I just want to skip anything that takes time and crash into bed. In the past I’ve tried a few different cleansing cloths, but even though I don’t tend to have sensitive skin, they always leave me with a burning sensation on my face and eyes…so no thank you. While I work on my full nighttime skincare routine. I really like these wipes (no burning, because there are no harmful chemicals, and also oil-free). I now keep these wipes next to my bed (along with a nightcream) so I can do my best even after the longest days. They’re also the only wipe I’ve ever found that can actually clean up a full face of makeup. I like to think of them as the clown car of face wipes. At $20 they are pricey, but I’m justifying that it’s cheaper than wrinkles.

Am I throwing all of my other products away just yet? No way. Ya’ll know this will always be my favorite concealer, and I swear by this to make my brows even exist, but I love good products (and these really are super good!) and I am trying to be more conscious about what chemicals I’m using in our home, and our bodies.

FAQ:

Do you sell Beautycounter?

I sell Beautycounter just as much as I sell my new favorite jeans from Old Navy, or the super soft sweater I just got from Pink Blush. I get a small commission based on purchases you make from my links.

Do you have to be a “consultant” in order to get a discount?

Nope! There’s also a program called ‘Band of Beauty’ where you pay $29, and every time you shop, you receive 10% off your subtotal in product credit to use towards your next purchase (spend $100, get $10 off on your next order). With that $29 fee, you also get free shipping on any $100+ order, and a free gift if your first purchase is over $50.

Do they ship to APO addresses?

Yes! Beautycounter ships to APO addresses, and to be honest, it’s probably even faster than Amazon prime from the US.
