What to See

One of the highlights of our short time in Zurich was a boat cruise around the Lake.  For us it was the perfect way to spend an evening, and a great way to scout out little spots for swimming or renting a boat for future weekend getaways.  With a little drink/snack spot on-board Tyler was able to enjoy a few local brews and (since I’m hungry every 20 minutes) I enjoyed a quick bite.  Definitely kid friendly, as there were many families (and couples) on-board.  Lake cruises start at the Zürich Bürkliplatz, which is easily accessible by public transportation (and on foot).  Tickets are inexpensive, and can be purchased at the dock.

When traveling, we try to make it a point to either walk or take public transportation, and we really enjoyed both in Zurich.  The public transit is easy to navigate, and we found the city to be quite walkable.  Wandering around town, window shopping (and chocolate shopping) was a great afternoon activity.

Where to Stay

I cannot say enough good things about the hotel we picked, Sorell Hotel Rigiblick.  This hotel is tucked away from the city in what feels like a little treehouse oasis, yet still just a few minutes funicular ride from town (which was pretty fun transportation, if you ask me!).  Dog Friendly (which Piper appreciates) and beautifully laid out (large!) accommodations –45 to 90 m² — perfect for families traveling with a baby, needing extra space or privacy.  The King Sized bed was a major win for me (this pregnant belly needs ALL the space!) and breakfast (included in the rate) was the perfect start to our day of adventuring (if you’re not able to stick around for breakfast, they’ll actually pack you a bundle to-go…including coffee 😉

What to Eat

Full disclosure, dining in Zurich is pricey.  It was probably good for our travel budget that I couldn’t enjoy a few cocktails (think €8 for a beer-€16 for a boozy beverage).  On the bright side, the food is absolutely delicious!  We enjoyed a casual dinner at The Bite, where I had an amazing sampler of 3 sliders (The Threesome…so naughty 😉) and Tyler, The BBQ.  We easily could have licked our plates…it was just that good.  The outdoor patio is absolutely charming (hello, bistro lights) and the staff was so warm, we could have stayed here all evening.  I highly recommend a meal at The Bite if you’re in town during dinner.

Zurich was the perfect mini-excursion for us en route to Ascona (see this post on our amazing time in this Swiss/Italian village).

Is there somewhere/thing in Zurich that you love?  Let me know in the comments!

  1. I stopped in Zurich many years ago and have a memory of a large and famous fountain with lions. Beyond that I don’t remember much about it, would love to go back though! Switzerland in spring and summer is so spectacular.
